About this game
Artyom carries a message from his home station through tunnels held by fascists, communists, and mutant-infested darkness, with a gas mask filter counting down whenever he steps onto the ruined surface and a hand-cranked flashlight that dims until pumped back to full charge.
Ammunition is scarce enough that pre-war military-grade rounds double as the game's actual currency, so every gunfight against a human or a monster is also a decision about whether to spend the good bullets or the money they represent.
This remastered edition rebuilds the original 2010 release on a newer engine with reworked stealth and combat balance. A difficulty option lets the player experience the story either as a tense survival shooter or as a more forgiving narrative walk through Artyom's underground world.
- Filter-limited surface trips A gas mask filter counts down in real time on every excursion above ground.
- Ammo-as-currency economy The best bullets also function as money, so firing them in a fight has a real cost.
- A hand-cranked flashlight Light sources need manual charging, tying illumination to a small, constant chore.
- Faction-controlled tunnels Different stretches of the metro are held by rival factions with their own politics.
