Acquitted

You move with one hand and aim with the other while crowds of the undead press in from every side. The premise is deliberately absurd. A mob whipped up by manufactured outrage comes for you, and your job is to hold ground and get home in one piece. Maps are randomly generated and fully destructible, so cover is temporary and blowing a wall apart can open a firing lane or drop a structure onto a pack of enemies. Around a hundred levels wait to be worked through. Eighteen weapons and items make up the arsenal, covering firearms, melee tools and placeable defences, and part of the challenge is choosing what to carry into a layout you have not seen. Enemy behaviour is layered. Smaller zombies swarm, throw things and break through barricades, while larger ones are rare but hit hard enough to end a run. They flank and adjust to where you stand. The controls take under a minute to learn, and the difficulty sits in placement and timing instead. Hand-drawn artwork and a customisable character round out a single-player package.
