Horizon Shift '81

The player's ship sits at the center of the screen while enemies close in from above and below at once. This forces constant decisions about which threat to face first. Instead of only shooting, the ship can dash into enemies to knock them off the horizon line. A well-placed dash sends the knocked enemy crashing into other incoming foes, clearing clusters and racking up bonus points in a single move. Landing a dash kill refills the dash meter, so skilled play can chain several dashes together for extended combo runs. The ship can also jump to reposition vertically, including sequences that flip the action upside down. A bomb ability clears the screen and resets the horizon whenever the waves get overwhelming. The whole game leans into a bold, retro visual style paired with a driving soundtrack that matches its wave-based pacing. A dedicated vertical Tate mode lets the action be viewed in a tall, arcade-cabinet orientation instead of standard widescreen. Global leaderboards track scores across every run, giving the dash-chaining and bonus systems a competitive reason to master.
