Gatekeeper

Chaos has stolen the Heart of Time, and the player takes on the role of one of several Gatekeepers sent in pursuit. The chase leads through elite Siren guardians and waves of enemies across five separate planets, ending in a final confrontation in the Throne Room. Each run is built around choosing a Gatekeeper with a distinct starting kit, then combining more than a hundred collectible artifacts into stronger and stranger effects as the run progresses. Certain combinations link together into named Triads that unlock additional bonuses beyond what the individual pieces provide on their own. Missions on each planet come in a handful of distinct types, and clearing enough of them summons a Siren boss fight that guards further progress toward Chaos. Enemy density and bullet volume scale up steadily through a run, keeping the top-down shooting at the center of play even as artifact builds grow more elaborate. Progress made outside of a single run carries over in the form of unlocks, gradually expanding the pool of Gatekeepers and artifacts available at the start of future attempts. Later runs open with more options than the first.
