Deadly Dozen

You lead a special missions unit made up of condemned soldiers and misfits who are offered a chance at redemption through jobs nobody else will take. Twelve members are available, each with a speciality such as sniping or demolition, and you pick four of them before every mission. Each mission opens with a briefing where you study photographs, maps and objectives, then choose your loadout. Weapons cover sub-machine guns, bolt-action rifles, sniper rifles, automatic pistols, knives, bazookas and an anti-tank weapon. Objectives run to sabotage, theft, kidnapping and destruction behind enemy lines. Most of them can be finished quietly or through a straight firefight, and the maps are open enough that your approach and route genuinely matter. A single mission can run one to two hours. The fighting takes you through occupied France, North Africa, Norway and other war-torn ground, and some military vehicles can be driven. This is an older release and plays like one, leaning on squad orders and manual aiming rather than modern conveniences. That is much of its appeal for players who want a slower, planning-led shooter.
