Holmes examines crime scenes, collects physical clues, and questions witnesses and suspects, piecing findings together on a deduction board that lets the player choose which conclusions to draw from the available evidence. Gameplay alternates between Holmes and his companion Watson at points in the story, with puzzles ranging from lock picking and object manipulation to logical deduction sequences. The investigation follows several linked crimes across different locations, building toward a resolution shaped by the player's chosen interpretations of the evidence gathered.
