The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep

Combat plays out in turn based tactical encounters where positioning, timing, and combining character abilities matter more than raw stats. Players build a party from four base classes, Bard, Fighter, Practitioner, and Rogue, each carrying sixty to seventy individual skills that combine into twenty one distinct specializations. That range lets a party lean toward melee power, magic, support, or a mix depending on how the player wants to approach each fight.

Exploration takes place from a first person view across towns, dungeons, forests, hills, and icy wastelands, with environmental puzzles and hidden traps guarding the best treasure. Ancient weapons scattered through the world hide secrets that reward careful searching rather than simply pushing forward. Difficulty and convenience options, including anywhere saving and adjustable waypoint markers, let players tune how much hand holding they want during exploration.
