South of the Circle

Players guide Peter through fragmented memories and present-day survival moments, making dialogue choices that shape his relationships and reveal the personal and political tensions surrounding his research career. The gameplay centers on exploration of icy, atmospheric environments and branching conversations rather than combat or puzzles, with movement often handled through simplified climbing and walking sequences. As the story unfolds, players uncover a romance complicated by academic rivalry and the geopolitical pressures of the era, weaving personal drama into the backdrop of scientific expedition and survival. Choices in conversation influence how relationships develop and how the narrative's emotional beats land, though the overall story arc remains fixed. The visual style favors soft, painterly character models against stark polar landscapes, reinforcing the isolation and quiet tension of the setting. Voice-acted dialogue and a restrained, moody soundtrack support the reflective tone throughout, making the experience closer to an interactive drama than a traditional adventure game.
