The player takes the role of a Rider, gathering eggs from nests and hatching them into Monsties that fight alongside them and carry them across the world map. Combat is a turn-based triangle of power, speed and technical attacks, layered with weapon types, elemental weaknesses and a bond gauge that builds toward joint attacks with the monster you are riding. Genes taken from hatched monsters can be slotted into others, which turns team building into a long optimisation puzzle about inheriting skills and elements across generations. The first game follows a young Rider whose village is threatened by a spreading corruption; the second is longer and more polished, following a Rider descended from a legendary hunter, with a larger cast and better pacing. Both keep the wider series' creature designs and ecology while replacing its real-time hunts with something far more approachable, and both carry postgame content for players who want to breed a competitive team.
