FINAL FANTASY XIII-2

Each destination has its own era and rules, and choices made while visiting can alter what a location looks like on a later visit, so the story branches through cause and effect rather than a single fixed path.

A captured-monster system lets defeated enemies join the party as usable allies, each filling a battle role alongside Serah and Noel, and the fast, role-swapping battle system from the pair's own skills carries over from its predecessor with new wrinkles.

A minigame called Fragment Skip and a card-based Casino diversion pad out the between-story hours in Academia's future timeline. A New Game Plus style Historia Crux hub lets the player revisit any unlocked era freely once its portal is discovered, hunting down every branch of the story.

• Time-hopping story structure Locations are visited across different eras, and actions in one era can reshape another.
• Monster recruitment Defeated enemies can be captured and trained to fight alongside the two-person party.
• Branching outcomes Choices at key moments alter cutscenes and even which ending the story reaches.
• Fast, role-based battles Switching character roles mid-fight keeps combat quick despite its strategic depth.
