About this game

The player controls a party of characters exploring towns, dungeons, and an overworld map, fighting monsters in turn-based battles that use each character's unique job-based abilities and Trance transformations. The story follows Zidane and companions including Princess Garnet as they uncover a conspiracy tied to summoners and a mysterious enemy named Kuja. Compared to other entries in the series, this installment returns to a classic fantasy aesthetic with castles, airships, and a stronger emphasis on character-driven storytelling.

Turn-Based Battles Combat uses an active time battle system where character speed determines turn order.
Job-Based Characters Each party member has a fixed role and skill set rather than a changeable class.
Trance System Characters can enter a temporary Trance state that unlocks powerful special abilities.
Airship Exploration Players travel the world map on foot, by chocobo, and later by airship.
Character-Driven Story The plot centers on Zidane, Garnet, and a cast tied to the kingdom of Alexandria.
