The player controls Takuma Momozuka, making narrative choices during extensive visual novel segments that shape relationships, story branches, and which of multiple endings the campaign concludes with. Between story chapters, the player commands a squad of Digimon partners in grid-based tactical battles, positioning units and using elemental strengths and weaknesses to defeat hostile creatures roaming the world. A talk system lets the player negotiate with wild Digimon during combat to recruit them, while a digivolution mechanic allows partner Digimon to transform into stronger forms based on affinity levels built through story choices and care.
