Dead Space 2

Standard gunfire barely slows a Necromorph down, so combat is built around strategic dismemberment, cutting off limbs with mining tools repurposed as weapons to stop an enemy from closing the distance rather than simply draining its health bar.

Isaac's own fractured mental state bleeds into the game itself, with hallucinations and unreliable moments blurring what is really happening around him, while zero-gravity sections let him walk across any surface of a room and traverse the vacuum of space directly.

The Sprawl, a mining colony built into a fragment of Saturn's moon, replaces the first game's cramped starship with denser, more varied environments: a school, a church, a shopping concourse. All of it is repurposed into Necromorph-infested set pieces as Isaac fights to understand why he woke up there.

• Strategic dismemberment Cutting off limbs, not center-mass shots, is the reliable way to put a Necromorph down.
• Repurposed mining tools Weapons like the plasma cutter and line gun began life as industrial equipment.
• Full zero-gravity movement Isaac can walk across any surface of a room and move freely through open vacuum.
• An unreliable protagonist Hallucinations tied to Isaac's own trauma blur what is real throughout the story.
