Players choose between two protagonists, a journalist framed for conspiracy or an undercover agent pulled back in for one last job, each following a different storyline. Investigation drives the plot: talking to inmates, gathering evidence and piecing together two overlapping conspiracies from inside the walls. Dozens of inmates can be approached through dialogue, and relationships built with them open new information, favors and story branches. Crafting and mini-games sit alongside the story content, letting a player build tools, trade goods or pass time between key events. More than a hundred quests branch out from the two main storylines, with several distinct escape routes leading to different endings. Skills in combat, stealth or persuasion can be developed to match a preferred way of moving through the prison. Choices made throughout the story carry weight, since the ending a player reaches depends on which paths and alliances they chose.
