Aces & Adventures

Its story follows a hero drawing on Norse and Middle Eastern myth to save the Life Tree, Cardrasil, from a spreading darkness. Combat is built around a standard deck plus special ability cards, with the four suits acting as mana to power those abilities. Each turn, players can throw a single high card as a quick attack or commit to a full poker hand, from a pair up to a five-card hand, for bigger effect. Defenders can match the number of cards thrown against them to block the damage, turning every exchange into a small bluffing and math puzzle. Five playable characters each carry their own ability library and thirty levels of advancement, spread across thirteen fully-voiced campaigns. A separate mode, the Invernal Spiral, adds a longer deck-management run where players prune and upgrade their deck as they go. Individual encounters are built to finish in ten to twenty minutes, keeping runs short enough to fit into a single sitting.
