Wartales - Contract: The Fief

Players claim a stretch of ruined, lawless land and rebuild it into a working fief. The settlement grows district by district as new buildings and production sites go up. Each district needs feeding, guarding, and keeping content, so players balance farms, markets, taverns, and training grounds against the population's needs. Rulers also enact laws and mandates that set the fief's character, choosing to govern through strength, wisdom, profit, or crime. These choices carry weight, shifting the domain toward order and prosperity or toward corruption and unrest. Citizen happiness, security, and production all respond to whichever mandates are in force. The expansion folds this long-term settlement building into Wartales' existing party management and combat, giving mercenary companies somewhere permanent to invest their earnings between contracts. The result is a persistent base that reflects the choices made in it, not just a scoreboard tacked onto the campaign.
