永遠消失的幻想鄉 ～ The Disappearing of Gensokyo

An incident has broken out in Gensokyo. Strangers nobody recognises have appeared, the shrine maiden who normally settles such things is missing, and the job of finding out who they are falls to whoever is left. You take a party of familiar residents through Heaven, the Hakurei Shrine, Misty Lake, the Scarlet Devil Mansion and other well-known corners of the land. Play runs from a raised view across mostly flat arenas packed with enemies, closer to a dungeon crawler than a scrolling shooter. What sets it apart is that the danmaku stays, so bosses fill the screen with layered bullet patterns and you weave through them while landing your own hits. Every playable character fights differently, with her own attacks, spell cards and movement quirks drawn from the source material. Levelling, gear and skill choices deepen a character over a run, and bosses reward learning a weakness rather than raw stats. Boss duels against well-known residents form the backbone of the campaign. Text is offered in several languages, and the tone keeps the light, chatty feel of the material it draws from.
