About this game
Eggman's villainous team, chasing pieces of the Chaos Emeralds.
The game splits its campaign into a Hero Story, played as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and a Dark Story, played as Shadow, Rouge, and Dr. Eggman, each following parallel events from opposing sides of the same conflict. Level types alternate between high-speed running stages, treasure-hunting exploration stages, and mech-based shooting stages, giving each character type a distinct style of play rather than one uniform format.
Completing both stories unlocks a final chapter that resolves the plot involving the Chaos Emeralds and the artificial life form Shadow. The Battle version adds a versus multiplayer mode where two players race or fight head to head using characters from the story modes.
- Two Campaigns Play through parallel Hero and Dark stories with different characters and goals.
- Three Gameplay Styles Speed, treasure-hunting, and mech-shooting stages rotate between characters.
- Versus Multiplayer Two players can race or battle using characters from the story modes.
- Chao Garden A side mode lets players raise and evolve virtual creatures called Chao.
