Like a Dragon

Like a Dragon follows Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking yakuza who takes the fall for a crime he didn't commit and emerges from prison eighteen years later to find his former family collapsed and the criminal underworld reshaped around him. Set primarily in a fictionalized red-light district, the game blends dramatic crime-story narrative with turn-based combat, in which Ichiban and his party of allies fight rival gangs using techniques imagined through the lens of his favorite tabletop role-playing games, complete with jobs, classes, and exaggerated, theatrical special attacks. Outside of battles, the world is packed with side activities, from minigames and part-time jobs to management sims and quirky substories that flesh out the city and its cast of oddball characters. Exploration is open, letting players wander the streets, enter shops and restaurants, pick fights with street thugs, and stumble into optional content that ranges from comedic to surprisingly heartfelt. The story mixes heartfelt melodrama with over-the-top humor, following Ichiban as he rebuilds his life, gathers a found-family crew of party members, and confronts the figures responsible for his fall, all while navigating a criminal ecosystem full of betrayal, loyalty, and colorful characters.
