Valiant Hearts: Coming Home

Playable characters include James, a soldier serving with the first African-American infantry regiment to fight in the war, and George, a mysterious pilot. Ernst, a German diver, and Anna, a nurse working to save the wounded, round out the cast. Their separate paths converge around one shared goal: reuniting two brothers who have been torn apart by the conflict. Each character brings a different kind of gameplay to their sections, mixing exploration, environmental puzzles and light action. Some sequences have the player sneaking past enemy patrols, while others put them in the cockpit flying above the battlefield. Further sections have characters tending to injured soldiers or playing music to lift spirits. Walt, the loyal dog from the original story, returns as a companion who helps solve puzzles by fetching items and clearing paths. The game is presented in an animated, hand-drawn art style that softens some of the war's darker moments while still depicting its cost. Historical photographs and background notes are woven into the levels, grounding the fiction in real events. It gives weight to the story of soldiers, medics and civilians caught up in a war not one of them chose. It builds on the emotional, character-first storytelling of its predecessor while introducing a new cast and a broader set of wartime perspectives.
