About this game
On the turn-based campaign map, the player manages province economies, diplomacy, and army recruitment while expanding territory clan by clan across a map set generations before the base game's story. Battles are fought directly in real time, with the player positioning infantry, cavalry, and archer units on the terrain to outmaneuver rival clan armies. The campaign introduces clans and unit types specific to this earlier historical period, along with unique hero units such as legendary warrior monks not found in the main SHOGUN 2 campaign.
- Earlier Historical Setting The campaign is set generations before the main SHOGUN 2 story, during the Genpei War era.
- New Playable Clans The player can command clans unique to this campaign.
- Real-Time Battles Armies are commanded directly on the battlefield after campaign map movement.
- Period-Specific Units Unit rosters and hero characters reflect the earlier time period.
