About this game
Players lead one of several factions, managing settlements, diplomacy, and army recruitment on a campaign map while trying to expand or defend territory across the isle. When armies meet, the game shifts to real-time battles where units are positioned and commanded directly on a 3D battlefield, with terrain, formation, and morale all affecting the outcome of the clash. The game narrows the series' usual broad historical scope to a single moment in time, adding faction-specific mechanics and a smaller, more detailed map than other entries in the series.
- Turn-Based Campaign Map Players manage settlements, resources, and diplomacy across multiple turns.
- Real-Time Tactical Battles Armies clash in real time with direct control over unit positioning.
- Multiple Playable Factions Several factions from the period are available, each with distinct units.
- Ninth-Century Setting The campaign is set during the Viking-age struggle for control of Britain.
