Each mission, called an incursion, is built from three connected sub-zones with objectives that change every run. Tasks include collecting samples, extracting data from computers, or gathering intel on the hostile alien presence. Players choose from eighteen operators, each carrying a distinct weapon loadout and gadget, from a heartbeat sensor that spots enemies through walls to a holographic decoy that draws fire away. After finishing a sub-zone's objective, the squad can extract immediately to bank progress safely or push into the next, tougher zone for greater rewards. The alien enemies, called Archaeans, range from standard grunts to specialized types like spike-shooting attackers and enemies that root and slow the player. Areas coated in a calcified substance called sprawl slow players down while making nearby enemies stronger. Health does not regenerate mid-mission, so managing limited supplies matters throughout each run. An operator who goes down becomes missing in action rather than dead, carrying injuries into future missions until rescued. This adds lasting stakes to every decision to push forward or pull back.
