Agriculture, industry, commerce, education, civil affairs and politics are linked, so a change in one area shows up quickly in another. You assign jobs, collect resources before they are wasted, and place production and housing buildings where they feed each other. Grouping related buildings raises output, which makes district planning as important as raw growth. Beyond food and shelter, people want entertainment, so you hold perfume contests, poetry and music events and scripture readings to lift happiness. Crises arrive on their own schedule: floods and other disasters, plagues, crime, court factions turning on each other, and invasion from a neighbouring state. Story mode follows the rise and fall of the Song dynasty through imperial edicts and set events, and asks how your city answers each one. Time matters there, because tasks are tied to the period you are living through. Adventure mode drops the story pressure and lets you lay out a city freely. Buildings, trades, clothing and street life are drawn from museum and historical records, in a traditional Chinese art style.
