The Shell Part II: Purgatorio

Reiji still has not found closure from a prior kidnapping case when this new murder echoes religious fanaticism and an old curse. The story alternates between the present case and a flashback decades earlier in the same village, showing how the past shaped it. Play unfolds through reading, dialogue choices and light puzzle-solving rather than combat or reflex challenges. Reiji reluctantly teams up with Masaki, a troubled man hiding secrets, and the two work the case while facing their own grief. The narrative branches toward several endings; most are dead ends, sending the player back to try new choices, with a few true endings resolving the mystery. Illustrated portraits and scene art accompany the dialogue, and the story occasionally shifts to another character's viewpoint to fill in what Reiji cannot see. It is a slow-burn detective story about grief, obsession and secrets that refuse to stay buried, more concerned with emotional aftermath than jump scares.
