Sultan's Game

Each cycle the sultan draws a card naming a demand, and the player has a limited number of turns to meet it using the people, money and influence at hand. The demands are deliberately monstrous, and the tension comes from the arithmetic of compliance: who can be spent, what can be sold, and which relationships survive what you are about to do. Time is the scarcest resource. Actions are placed across a week, and investigating a lead, courting an ally, earning money and preparing for the next demand all compete for the same slots. Characters are written as individuals with their own goals and secrets, and the branching is wide enough that two runs can diverge completely depending on who is kept close and who is used up. Failure is a real and frequent outcome, and the structure invites replaying with knowledge carried forward. The presentation leans on illustrated cards and text rather than animation, and the tone stays bleak and ornate throughout.
