Levels move across varied settings, from beach landings to desert trenches, each changing how the defense has to be laid out. The standard campaign offers more than 20 different deployable units, each with its own strengths and weaknesses on the field. Players unlock and upgrade troops and vehicles across 77 unique upgrades, plus 4 passive abilities and 5 special abilities to shape their army. A separate Zombie mode swaps the campaign for hordes of the undead, adding trap deployment and airdrops for extra firepower. Zombie mode has its own set of more than 12 specialized upgrades, each with four levels that shock, burn, electrify or blow up enemies. Every mission asks players to balance which units to deploy, where to place them and which upgrades to prioritize as enemy waves grow tougher.
