A randomly generated galaxy means each match starts unknown: you send scouts through star lanes, chart systems, and settle worlds that suit your species. Each race brings its own hulls, technologies and special abilities, so an empire that thrives on trade plays nothing like one built for conquest. Research unlocks components you fit to custom ship designs, and fleets meet in turn-based tactical battles where positioning and weapon arcs decide the outcome. Generals are persistent units that gain experience and can swing an engagement. Away from the fighting, you keep colonies fed and content, since unhappy populations protest and can tip an empire into civil war that spawns a new rival. Diplomacy covers treaties, trade and alliances, while an intelligence arm lets you steal technology, sabotage production and probe rivals for weak points, or quietly fund a war between two neighbours. Independent races and pirate clans occupy the map and can be fought, bribed or courted. Ancient ruins and artifacts reward exploration. The opposing AI plays by the same rules you do rather than being handed bonuses, and matches can be played against other people over a network or by passing one seat between players.
