Darwinia

The small, simple creatures called Darwinians have lost the ability to think for themselves after the virus tore through their world, so the player commands squads of soldiers, engineers, and other units to clear out viral swarms while shepherding surviving Darwinians back toward safety.

Levels play out as puzzle-like strategic problems as much as battles, with the terrain, camera angles, and unit types changing from level to level rather than repeating a single formula, and every reclaimed area restores a piece of the world's original code.

A colorful, over-the-top marketing sequence bookends the campaign as a deliberate contrast to the sparse, green wireframe world itself. Later levels introduce viral bosses and set-piece assaults that force the player to combine unit types rather than lean on any single earlier strategy.

• A retro terminal look The whole world renders in a green wireframe style built to look like an old computer display.
• Squad-based unit control Soldiers, engineers, and specialist units are commanded directly across small, tactical battles.
• Shepherding the Darwinians Surviving creatures must be guided to safety rather than simply defended in place.
• Puzzle-shaped levels Each level introduces a new tactical wrinkle instead of repeating the same battle formula.
