Players choose from a large roster of European nations, each with distinct unit rosters, buildings and technology trees, then gather resources to build economies capable of fielding huge armies. Battles can involve enormous numbers of infantry, cavalry and artillery at once, with formations and unit facing affecting combat outcomes rather than simple stat comparisons.

The game rebuilds an earlier title's large-scale battles and economic systems with updated visuals while keeping the original's nation list and scale intact.
